Maddie's Do You Know? - Season 4 - Episode 10 - Glass Recycling and Jam

In today’s episode, Maddie is learning all about glass! She visits a glass recycling centre to see how the glass from our homes is recycled. When the glass arrives to the centre, it’s mixed with other materials like stone, ceramic and plastics, which together are called contaminants. Using her special slow-motion camera, Maddie sees how clever machines use magnets and powerful jets of air to get rid of all the contaminants. Next, Maddie visits a jam factory, where she helps to squeeze lemons and learns how a natural chemical in lemon peel called pectin works to stick the jam together. She uses her special camera to see how a giant pan heats frozen raspberries, sugar and lemon so the water evaporates and the mixture turns thick.
