Peter Butterworth, actor, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews in Selfridges department store in central London.
During the Second World War, Peter served as a lieutenant in the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, and was taken prisoner-of-war after his plane was shot down while flying in an attack off the Dutch coast. He was taken to Stalag Luft III where he began to perform in the camp's entertainment shows, along with fellow prisoners Talbot Rothwell and Rupert Davies.
After the war he pursued a career in show business, finding work on television in sketch shows and children’s programmes. He appeared in minor film roles throughout the 1950s and joined the regular cast of the Carry On film series in 1965 with Carry On Cowboy.
